June and July 2007 proved to be exceedingly wet; unseasonably so - many games were cancelled in June and July throughout the region.
On Fri 20th July 2007, a cutoff low made its way up across the UK depositing over 125mm of rain (5") at nearby RAF Brize Norton. As a result of the heavy rain on the Friday, and the subsequent run-off making its way down the Thames and tributaries, Abingdon Vale cricket ground at Hales and Hayes Meadows became flooded. This is believed to be the first year the ground has flooded during the cricket season.
