Abingdon Vale CC - Cricket Committee

Abingdon Vale CC has high hopes of progress for all teams in the 2008 season. As of 2007, there was been a change of structure within the club. A cricket committee was formed with Ben Humpage as Chair, to concentrate on improving the quality of cricket played at all levels. This immediately led to a full program of nets throughout the year. This enthusiasm for improvement has carried on into some excellent Tuesday evening practice sessions (6pm onwards). These are aimed at improving all aspects of your game from basic batting, bowling, and fielding skills to fitness and running between the wickets. We aim to make these as enjoyable and beneficial as possible. Please make every effort to attend. It is no coincidence that the more you practice the better you play.

We are also asking for a commitment from the playing members of the club to play more frequently than in prior years. We have suffered due to poor availability, particularly at the end of the season when our results have traditionally tailed off. We can't all play every week but please be aware of the effects both on your immediate team mates, plus any teams below you. Team spirit, a vital element of success, can be elusive at the best of times, but is far easier to generate in a settled group of players. If we can retain a core of players at each level who are available on a regular basis, we are confident that we will have a very successful, and enjoyable, season.

The club is looking for promotion from all 4 Saturday sides and to win many more games than it loses in all forms of cricket. This will in turn lead to a successful season off the pitch. Winner's beer always tastes better than loser's beer. Abingdon Vale has always been a fantastic social club, but has been guilty of under achieving on the pitch relative to its size and catchment area. Our aim for the season is to improve our cricket at all levels whilst maintaining the excellent social atmosphere that we all love.
